'Rihanna arrives 4½ hours late at Chicago high school'

Rihanna, clearly, does not make excuses.

Superstar Rihanna was due to appear at a suburban Chicago high school after students there won a contest she sponsored that had kids create a video set to one of her songs. But things didn’t go as scheduled, waited more than 4½ hours

Rihanna was originally supposed to start her visit at 1 p.m.; on Thursday evening, the school announced that had been pushed back to 2 p.m. As of 5 p.m., she still wasn’t at the school. She was introduced to the crowd at about 5:30 p.m.



The Unapologetic singer, looking demure in a bomber jacket and pencil skirt “Thank you guys for coming and waiting,” the Barbadian signer said, before paying tribute to the school’s charitable works.

Some of the kids were unamused. The seventh-grader Jaki Mora as saying: “Rihanna is pathetic. She shouldn’t be making us wait for her.”

"Our school worked hard to win this. She should be more respectful," Halle said.

RiRi stayed for 16 minutes, took some pictures with some lucky students and then left.

At 4:22 p.m., Rihanna posted a picture from inside her vehicle with the caption, "This Chicago traffic is not working."


About 2,500 people assembled in the gymnasium of the northwest suburban high school awaiting Rihanna’s arrival.

A school official announced that someone in the crowd will win an autographed Rihanna CD and tickets to her show tonight at the United Center.
